Bowen Therapy
Working with the fascia.

This gentle technique is highly recommended for releasing stress, shock and trauma out of the body.

Bowen Therapy, like naturopathy, helps the body achieve homeostasis, and regain its own natural balance. It works on the soft connective tissue (fascia) over the muscles, tendons and ligaments. It involves specific patterns of powerful but gentle moves with the fingers or thumbs in specific locations around the body. These moves serve to 're-set' the body by relaxing the nervous system, the endocrine (hormonal) systems, as well as improving circulation, stimulating the movement of lymphatic fluid and improving joint mobility. It also boosts the immune system function.
This gentle technique is suitable for all ages and most conditions:

What is fascia?
Fascia is like a sheet of connective tissue (made up primarily of collagen fibres) which surrounds all our muscles as well as the organs within the body. Healthy fascia is freely movable and glides over and around these structures as we move. (Think of the stretchy covering over red meat or chicken.) The fascia links our muscles, tendons and ligaments together. Restriction or injury in our body results in the fascia having less movement as it loses its fluidity creating discomfort and pain. Bowen therapy works to reduce these fascial restriction.

How long is the appointment?
The first appointment will take around an hour, after that a session takes around 45 minutes.
Why do Bowen (and Emmett Technique) have so few moves on the body?
At times during your treatment Jasmin will stand back and move away from the table - this is to allow the Bowen moves to be integrated by the body. It takes the central nervous system somewhere between 90 seconds to two minutes to determine the origin and the type of stimulation received and to send returned information back to the peripheral area that was stimulated and for the area to relax. This way we don't over stimulate the nervous sytem and reduce the benefit of the treatment.
How many sessions will I need?
This will be determined by your personal needs. In general we
suggest to come on a weekly basis for 3 consecutive weeks and then
re-evaluate, and if necessary, extend to fortnightly or monthly
appointments.
It may take a few sessions to ‘re-set’ the body, as we improve the relation-
ship between the fascia and the nerves, muscles or/and tendons.
We advise that you avoid doing heavy or repetitive physical work after
bowen therapy your session so as to allow the body to integrate the session.

I’ve injured myself… should I wait for the bruising to go away before I come to you?
Come as soon as you can! Bowen is such a gentle technique it can help with the bruising and inflammation.
After the bowen treatment on my 10 week old baby she slept for nearly 4 hours! Normally she only sleeps for 35 minutes. She has been much more settled as well. May 2023
My shoulder has been pain free since the session. Thank you Jasmin. April 2023

I've been coming to Jasmin for over 6 years to balance my body after I get manipulated by my other bodyworker. I have chronic fatigue/ fibromyalgia and I find the gentle approach of Bowen Therapy balances out my body so I don't react to the more forceful manipulation. It works well! Tania

In 3 sessions I've felt release & ease in all my limbs & back & much more aligned. I love Jasmin's delightfully easeful & gentle but confident manner, you just know she knows what she's doing! Thanks Jasmin, you have amazing hands. Wouldn't hesitate to return” Chantelle 2014
